my first ty work experience!!

for my ty work experience i decided to go to the leinster clinic in maynooth in the physiotherapy department.......i chose to do this as i have an interest in sport and i thought it might be an area id like to get into. i absolutely loved it!!!! when i started at first i was nervous going in on my first day because i didnt know anyone and i was pretty much depending on myself but i went in and everyone was very welcoming and nice and so i was ready to get to work! i was brought into the physiotherapy suite by my supervisor eamonn where a client was waiting i was introduced and then given the details of the injury. i really enjoyed learning about all the different types of injuries this was one of the many aspects of the job i enjoyed. A lot of what physiotherapy is about is helping the patient recover and regain strength in whatever part of their body. this is another thing i enjoyed about physiotherapy you got to help people recover strength and you got to ease the pain for them and for me going home at the end of the day with the satisfaction of knowing you helped someone even if only small really made me fall in love with the job. now ive learnt i want a job where i can brighten up peoples day just by helping them.!!

another thing ive learnt about physiotherapy is you have to be fit and have a lot of social skills.....when helping a patient recover you have to be able to demonstrate stretches that are for some agonizing and take a lot of strength to do. you have to be able to communicate and sympothize with them and instruct them  on how to do stretches correctly and properly so they can actually have a successful recovery. You have to be strong in the arms mostly as you are "massaging" not in a nice way areas of the body where patients have injured so you can get rid of the bone tissue and loosen the patients muscles where they have become tight and for most this is a very painful thing. This is another aspect of the job i enjoyed it is not a job where you are sitting at a desk it is an active job where you are talking to people day in day out showing them stretches and i loved this just being able to talk to patients and getting to know them!!

after this work experience ive found out so much about the job i want to have and characteristics of that job, and i can honestly say i would love to be a physiotherapist when im older but i still want to get to see other jobs and compare them and see what else is out there to do...which is one of the many perks of being young!! :)

ty so far......

when i decided to do ty it was really because i wanted to try new experiences, find out new things about myself and take a year to ready myself for the leaving cert.!!  so far i havent had a minute to myself......if anyone ever tells you ty is a doss year ignore them because im in ty and its been one of the busiest years ive ever had so far..but in a good way. Instead of being given written homework youre given projects to do and deadlines to do them for. I feel like im in the apprentice :L so far i can tell you ive learnt quite a lot..experienced quite a lot and im looking forward to whats still to come!....ty has definitely surpassed my expectations! :)

Chile: a pretty cool place! :)

for my round the world geography trip i've decided to choose Chile and new zealand as my two countries id visit. i chose these two countries as i felt i hadnt really much knowledge on either of them so i set out to change this! for my slideshow presentation i chose Chile to present to the class as i think a lot of people forget about this small country southwest of America. Chile is a really fascinating country from its hot spring geysers to the lush forests of the fjords! recently in the news there was a lot of coverage of the copiapo mining accident where 33(los 33) men were trapped hundreds of metres beneath the ground and it just shows how such a forgotten country rose to the task of rescueing these men and not only that but did it before the actual time they had said they would be able to rescue them and the major success of the rescue had a lot to do with the Chilean president Sebastian Pinera who is now one of my idols!!!

one of the places ive decided to visit is The Easter Islands. it is a very famous landmark so much so that some people call it the eight wonder of the world. On this island you will see 800 maoi which are these stone statues of strange looking heads. theyre all in a straight line and they continue around the perimeter of the island. it really is one of the wonders of the world and for this reason and many more i think more people should visit Chile as it really is a pretty cool place!!:)

Palates!!!

today we had our first session of palates. for three weeks class emnet are going to do palates and the other ty class are going to do dancing! at first we were all a bit anxious and nervous as we didnt really know what was going to happen or more importantly if it was going to hurt! but once we got stuck into it we all started to relax. some of the exercises were challenging but most were very soothing and do-able. towards the end you could really see the improvement in the class as we were really getting the hand of "navel to spine"!! it was great craic and i cant wait until next week! :)
